Hi there, I'm Michelle.
I'm an independent creative design & marketing professional.
I graduated from Cornell University's Hotel School in 2011 with a BS in Hotel Administration. I actually started my college career in as a Fine Arts major. While I loved continuing my art education, an experience volunteering as a server for a student showcase cocktail event at the Hotel School opened my eyes to the possibilities in hospitality. The event made such a strong impression on me that I switched majors the very next semester. At the Hotel School, I focused my studies on hospitality marketing, putting my creative skills from my background in fine arts and design to practical use in the business world.
After Cornell, I was constantly on the move in the marketing department of Vino Volo, the airport wine bar chain. Anything and everything that involved the brand's "look & feel" went through my inbox and always kept me on my toes. Today, I work as a creative designer and independent contractor for a variety of companies.
I believe creativity and artistry are about more than paints, pencils, or Photoshop. Anything can be innovative. Any medium can be creative: from cooking to mixology to marketing campaigns, problem solving, and even numbers and mathematics. Artistry is a mindset, not a skill set. I strive to approach every opportunity or obstacle with an open mind and endeavor to find a creative spark
I grew up for the most part in Western Washington in a multi-cultural, travel friendly family. My Michigan dad met my city-girl mom in Seoul, Korea when he was in the Army. After leaving Korea and the army, my folks traveled and lived everywhere and anywhere until I was around 2 when we settled in Washington. My spirit of adventure & exploration, as well as my creativity, definitely comes from my family who have always encouraged me to try new things and look at life as a huge learning opportunity.
